COME GROW WITH US
We here at Baraga Broadcasting are very excited with the progress we have made since our inception in the fall of 2003. At Present, we have 3 Catholic Radio stations on the air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we are pursuing two additional stations at the time of this writing.
We are in the fifth year of our endeavor to bring Catholic Radio throughout the Gaylord Diocese. It has been primarily an effort of dedicated Catholic lay people, an all volunteer operation. Before year's end we may begin to move into an employment phase, trusting that our financial base strengthens.
Our programming has been supplied principally by EWTN Radio in Birmingham, AL and Ave Maria Radio in Ann Arbor. We also give regular airing to programs produced by the National Council of Catholic Bishops, underwritten by the Catholic Communication Campaign. In addition we provide a community calendar in support of local church happenings (also carried on our website) and weather news for our coverage area. Interviews with various personalities in our diocese can also be heard.
Some would say that Catholic Radio leans a little too far to the right. We would appreciate hearing your reactions. Such observations as you may have would be of value to our programming committee. So, take this as an invitation to listen to our programming and respond accordingly.
Listening can be a problem for many, but we do continue to work toward our objective - service to the entire diocese. Since the acquisition of WTCK 90.9 FM, a 600 watt station licensed to Charlevoix, we have added two (translator) stations serving the communities of Gaylord, Macknaw City and the Straits Area. This gives us coverage along Lake Michigan from the Boyne communities to Mackinaw City and the straits area and now Gaylord.
The FCC recently accepted our request to increase the power of WTCK, dependent upon our providing filters for those who pick up the TV 6 channel in East Jordan. While we may double our wattage it will not double coverage, however, it will enhance listening in fringe areas. The Commission also accepted the Holy Family license application for a 10KW station in Tawas. That means it is under review, yet to be granted.
To support Catholic Radio we are dependent upon our listeners. At the same time we are pursuing underwriters and foundation grants. This is meant to serve the diocese, so keep us in your prayers. We thank you and the many who have been so encouraging and supportive.
